Wink

Hi, I am new to this board & this is my first post.
First let me say I LOVE American Girl Dolls. My daughter who is 9 years old recently made me aware of AG Dolls (am I sheltered or what). I took her to the Chicago store in Oct. 2005 & let her pick out her 1st AG Doll for her 9th Birthday. Since that time we have (between the both of us) 18 AG Dolls. Most of them at least 10 I have bought NIB, mind you just since Oct., (shame on me). A few I have bought from Ebay & then a couple for a second hand store in my area. I have bought doubles of Marisol & Jess. One for each of us, "we" play with her dolls, the other ones I have displayed & those are not to be played with. I also have Kailey, I bought her NIB off of Ebay, now that one I'm not sure if I can get another one for my daughter to play with. She was pretty expensive to get.
My question is I do not understand this issue about "fake" AG Dolls....I have recently (tonight) noticed feedback on a person in Ebay regarding selling a fake Lindsey doll, well now the person claiming to have recvd the "fake" doll...is now selling a Lindsey doll but states her to be authentic...I'm confused. Is there such a think as "fake" AG Dolls....I don't see how there could be. I so BADLY want Lindsey to complete MY Limited Edition collection but don't want to be scammed myself...so how am I to know if one is fake, is there such a thing as fake? Does anyone have a Lindsey doll for sale?
There is hardly an AG Doll I don't want. I think I like them all, really I think I want them all. I can't wait till the day I am able to move into a larger home & have a whole bedroom for my (our) dolls.
Any suggestions or info you can give me regarding "fake" dolls would be helpful.
Thanks, Lynne

You've come to the right place! Welcome! There is a board member that is an expert on AG fakes.

We can't wait to see pictures of your collection!

I have Lindsey, so if you'd like to see some pictures my doll (just to compare, not to make you sad you don't own her!) check out my albums.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Hi, Lynne!!! Welcome to the board, this is the best place online to discuss our passion for the dolls!!! I want them all too!!!! And bought a lot of dolls in a few months, just like you, only my DD is going to be two this week and is too young to play with them with me, and I can't wait till she is older so we can play together!

I am sure you will have your questions answered here, there are many "experts" who can tell you for sure if a doll is fake or not. I hope you find an authentic Lindsey and add her to your collection!!!

Lynne, if the person selling Lindsey dolls claims to have received fake dolls in the past she probably knows by now what a real one looks like and is aware that she cannot sell the fake ones on ebay without suffering the repercussions. I cannot speak for the seller but I really doubt that she would want to scam someone if she has been scammed herself. I personally know of one seller who found out she had been scammed and therefore pulled the listing of the doll she had been scammed with and refused to sell it to the person who won it. She received good feedback for that person. So mods, is this post okay? I didn't mention any names and I didn't slam anyone.

Lynne -

Yes, there are "fake" AG dolls out there. Probably more accurately referred to as "clones." I own a fake Felicity and a fake Molly. Angie (GillyGals) has a fake Kirsten and a fake Lindsey. And Ria (AGTeacher) has a fake Kit and a fake Lindsey. But don't think because of this that every doll out there on ebay is a fake--because the vast majority of them are the real deal.

The biggest clue to a fake is the eyes and the hair. The eyes kinda look "buggy" and usually the hair is "off,"--either in color, style, or quality. Most of the fakes are also sold without shoes, since their feet tend to be larger than the real AGs.

There have also been instances where "genuine" dolls are rewigged and sold as a "different" doll, either directly or implied. This seems to happen the most with Lindsey--I have seen Kit dolls rewigged to look like her. Again, the color of the eyes and the hair not being quite "right" are the biggest clue.

If you PM me the link to the auction in question, I'd be glad to give you my impression as to the authenticity of the doll in question.

Linda

WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!!!!!

Someone on the board has a fake Lindsey and a fake Kit doll. You could get a fake doll if They are authentic AG but not really the character they are supposed to be. Other ways you could get a fake doll involve "mutant" dolls, or dolls with an AG head or body but different parts from somewhere else. Anyone selling a doll on ebay advertised as a certain AG character or a full AG doll when it is not is selling a "fake" doll. Anyone selling a non-AG doll as an AG doll is selling a "fake" doll. Of course, others know more about this than me, but I hope this helped a little!

Welcome! I think we are "neighbors". Not sure how close, I've only lived here for 4 (long, dark, freezing) years.

AGTeacher is our resident Fake expert. She has an album of her fake AG dolls here. If you have a question about the authenticity of the doll, you can PM her with the link to the auction or you can start a thread asking for help but without posting a link to the auction in question. The link must be shared through PM as we don't want to wrongly damage the reputation of a seller of a legitimate AG doll.
